News: Olivia Clears Up G-Unit Exit Rumors, "I Asked To Be Let Go"

Former G-Unit singer Olivia recently cleared up misconceptions about her departure from 50 Cent's record label and said she was never dropped.

According to R&B crooner, she requested to leave the rapper's popular label.

"Again, miscommunication came into play, because I felt like I was just being a hood girl. So I spoke to Fif about it and told him that I was trying to do R&B, and being marketed as a rapper was not going to work. I loved being with them, but the direction that we was going wasn't working out for me. I already knew that I was not going to stay with them for a long time anyway because them with me would become ludicrous after a while, and plus I always saw myself as a solo artist, but with them it was always 50 Cent and G-Unit. After I left, the rumors hits the radios saying that I was dropped from the label while I asked to be let go." (City Scenes Magazine)

However, in the past, 50 Cent has said he made numerous attempts to help Olivia's career.

"I feel like even down to the 'I'll Whip Your Head Boy' on the Get Rich Or Die Tryin' soundtrack, I went into a different direction because I was trying to save the Olivia project," he explained. "I went for 'Best Friend' and had [Olivia] create a remix to it, and played that version and shot a video for it, when 'I'll Whip Your Head Boy' was already going. In the club, that was their choice." (Hot 97)

Olivia recently spoke on taking her career into the movie industry.

"The first movie we did was called Peephole. The last one we shot was called Conspiracy X with Shawn Baker as the director. Kellita Smith is in that one, it's a great movie. It's about a guy who just got out of jail and he's trying to get back on his feet. He ends up running his own clothing company. Somebody tries to frame him and that is why it's called Conspiracy X. I'm just happy to be able to get into new things and pursue different endeavors." (All Hip Hop)

The former KING Magazine covergirl recently said she has been able to return to her R&B roots since cutting ties with the Unit.

"I've been doing movies, y'all, finishing the album, I've been touring overseas, it's been a whole lot that y'all haven't seen me doing but the people who have been following me online checking out where I've been, they know what's up," Olivia said in an interview. "I've been working even though y'all don't think I've been working...When I was on G-Unit, I had to conform to what was on G-Unit, so I couldn't come out with R&B records because I was with a bunch of rappers so now I get to do exactly what I want to do and you get to hear me really sing, but again, for the people that come to my live shows, they see what I do...I'm no longer with G-Unit, I'm back solo." Ashanti Doubles Up W/ Game & Dr. Dre, "Awww Sh*t It's A Problem!!!"

R&B singer Ashanti recently joined Dr. Dre and Game for a studio session in Los Angeles.

While not specifically saying what the threesome were up to, Shanti did post a photo of them in a recording studio.

"On the way 2 the lab!!! flyin dwn santa monica I think we took like 3 red lights lol!!! ( U guys dnt do tht tho) lol!!!," she wrote Wednesday (January 27). "@only1NOTTZ heyyyyyy!!!!! Wz crackin!! We gotta link up I'm in LA now jus leavin the lab!!!! Awwwwwww sh*t its a problem!!!!! Me DR. DRE & GAME in the lab ohhhhhhh booooooy this is a SMMMMIZAAASHHH!!!!!http://tweetphoto.com/9709437 & @ihategame jus debo'd my cup of tea!!!!! Smh!!! Lol!!! & of course @LTHUTTON is in the mothaf*#kin buildin!!! Hollaaa!!!" (Ashanti's Twitter)

Last year, Ashanti reunited with her former Murder Inc. labelmate Ja Rule for a VH1 Hip Hop Honors 2009 performance.

"It's been great," she said in an interview. "I haven't performed with Ja since -- I can't even remember it's been so long. We talked to each other on the phone and we said, 'Yo, we gonna make it hot! It's gonna be like old times.' It feels good. When we did the rehearsal, the chemistry was there." (MTV)

Ja Rule previously spoke with SOHH about Ashanti cutting ties with Murder Inc. head Irv Gotti.

"I'ma say it like this, Irv is my brother and I respect his decisions," Rule said. "I don't have any problems with Ashanti. That's my sister. We're a family so it's funny, it's like my brother and my sister are fighting. You see what I'm saying? It's a funny thing to me but Gotti is my brother before she was my sister so you take it how you take it. But me and Bon Bon are cool and I got love for her, that's my sister man..I think me and Bon Bon can coincide and do some records together again. I think we might even be able to hit the road and do some shows...Me and Bonnie don't have issues, her and Irv have issues and it's a tough thing you know what I'm saying? He brought her into the family but...me and her never had no real friction at all." (SOHH)

Irv helped launch Ashanti's career around the early 2000's with help from Rule and Fat Joe.

With hitmaker Irv Gotti at the helm, Ashanti blasted into the urbanmusic scene in 2002, topping the charts with multiple singles at once. She quickly became a sensation, gracing the covers of magazines and dominating urban radio. Ashanti built her reputation with duets, where she would complement an already popular rapper -- Ja Rule ("Always on Time"), Fat Joe ("What's Luv?"), the Notorious B.I.G. ("Unfoolish") -- contrasting the tough-guy male perspective with her own. (All Music)

Apple's Tablet Signals End of Mouse, Keyboard

(Jan. 26) -- Will Apple's forthcoming device be "the most important thing" that CEO Steve Jobs has ever done?

In a huge media event Wednesday, the company is set to unveil a tablet computer called the "iPad," "iSlate" or something else entirely. But after months of prognostication by industry insiders, a consensus has already emerged about the future of computing: Kiss your keyboard and mouse goodbye; you won't be needing them where we're headed.

That's because the tablet is expected to herald a new era of the graphical user interface (or GUI, pronounced "gooey"). A GUI includes all the common tools and the techniques we use to navigate our digital environments: the desktop, the idea of clicking items with a pointer guided by a mouse, the basic conventions found in all operating systems.

Steve Jobs, Apple's chief, is unveiling his next big product on Wednesday.

Future GUIs will more closely resemble the interactivity seen in sci-fi movies than anything we've seen before. Here's a few of the big trends that Apple's tablet portends:

1. The Most Advanced Multi-Touch

Likelihood on Apple Tablet: Very High

Multi-touch technology -- which allows users to interact with a digital device using more than one finger -- has become ubiquitous on a number of digital devices lately. That's in no small part due to the smashing success of Apple's iPhone.

Apple's tablet promises a new alternative to pointing and clicking a mouse. "The tablet should offer any number of unique multi-touch experiences -- for example, three fingers down and rotate could mean 'open an application,' " one Apple engineer told The New York Times earlier this month.

Others writers seized on the same report, noting that the implications of this new system are enormous.

"It would seem that Apple not only thinks differently but is actively engaged in making that vision a reality rather than waiting on third-party developers. If this rumor is true, and that 'if' is huge, then the world of personal computing may be about to undergo a paradigm shift not seen since the GUI replaced the command line," explained Charles Jade at the Apple Blog.

But how will users hold a tablet in one hand and type with another, all without a physical keyboard? The Apple Blog also has an interesting hypothesis regarding that problem:

An altogether different keyboard interface purposefully designed for five-finger typing with one hand. Users could hold the device in one hand, and quickly type with all fingers of the other.

Another particularly fascinating possibility for an even more elaborate multi-touch system has been articulated by Robert Clayton Miller. His version involves a massive, multi-touch track pad that can register all 10 fingers at once.

2. 3-D Desktop

Tablet Likelihood: Medium

Computers and mobile devices offer basically flat, two-dimensional surfaces. Sure, we can layer windows on top one another, but the desktop environment as a whole hasn't changed drastically for most consumers since the 1980s, when Apple unveiled its Lisa.

But Otaku Software offers a "virtual desktop manager" that allows Windows users to navigate six desktops through a rotating virtual cube. Another iteration, by Bump Technologies, creates a virtual room with three-dimensional walls that can be manipulated by a multi-touch screen.

Earlier this month, The Baltimore Sun's BaltTech blog uncovered a patent filing suggesting that Apple is developing technology operated solely through touch gestures. As the MacRumors blog put it:

Apple has long held an interest in bringing three-dimensional display elements to its devices using both perspective-based implementations in two dimensions and more advanced techniques for generating lifelike three-dimensional images.

Which brings us to what may be the most revolutionary trend.

3.) Touching Beyond the Screen

Tablet Likelihood: Not Yet

Apple's patent for a "3-D hyper-reality" display describes a system by which a computer can automatically detect properties of a user's physical environment -- such as the reflectivity of surfaces in a room -- and adjust virtual 3-D objects on the screen accordingly.

The ultimate goal: seamlessly merging the digital environment with the physical world. Of course, Apple is hardly the only one looking into better ways of accomplishing this feat.

Last November, an MIT grad student named Pranav Mistry unveiled technology using mini video projectors and motion sensors to create ordinary, low-tech physical objects like a user's fingers with the properties of everything from a digital camera to a cell phone.

"You can carry your digital world with you wherever you go," Mistry told a rapt audience at a TED conference. "You can start using any wall, any surface as an interface. "

In December, Engadget reported on a "new bi-directional display" showcased by Mistry's colleagues at MIT's Media Lab. The display integrates multi-touch functionality with optical sensors that track the users' gestures through the air, allowing them to physically rotate 3-D objects displayed in front of a monitor with their fingers.

And at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, a company called Light Blue Optics was praised on the Web for its innovative "Light Touch," a portable projector the size of paperback book that uses a laser to display a holographic, virtual touch-screen and keyboard on any flat surface.

Although the Apple tablet is not expected to cross this bridge quite yet, it is only a matter of time before it or another consumer digital device does. For now, you can place your own bets on Apple's big announcement and keep track of the predictions of others, using the following scorecard.

News: Drake On His Loyalty To Lil Wayne, "He Put His Neck Out There For Me At A Very Early Stage"

Drake has opened up about his loyalty to Lil Wayne and why he decided to align himself with Young Money instead of other record labels last year.

According to Drizzy, his admiration and respect for Wayne goes unmatched.

"Everyone seems to have a comment for me about Young Money, 'F*ck Young Money' or 'Why are you with them?' But what people have to understand is maybe there was a way for me to be successful without Young Money. But we'll never know. My loyalty is to Wayne, and that goes for anybody who genuinely believes in me. We don't have the most personal relationship where we hang out every day or we talk that much, but Wayne's admiration and respect goes without being verbally said. He put his neck out there for me at a very early stage, and those actions tell me everything I need to know about how he feels about me as an artist." (Complex)

The Canadian-based emcee recently spoke on Wayne's leadershp with Young Money.

"I think the best thing about Wayne is that he doesn't really get too involved in us developing as artists," Drake said about him. "He doesn't give his input on how we should be, or how we should rap, or how we should dress. Wayne just gives us the opportunity. If you drop the ball, you drop the ball. But Wayne's gonna give you the set-up. Wayne is gonna throw you the alley-oop -- you just have to cut to the hoop and slam. With that being said, he really gives you the space and lets you become your own person. He respects [artists that know] about themselves. He doesn't want to shape us all. I don't really know who wants to do that anymore. That was like, in '96 or something, when labels would be like, 'You got to be like this.' Wayne doesn't want to do that. Wayne wants us to thrive as the people we truly are, which is great." (MTV)

Last year, Drake compared his studio work ethic to Weezy's.

"Someone would really have to come to the studio to see me and Wayne together and how we work," Drake said in an interview. "It's the same sort of thing. I fear Wayne's creativity. It's endless. It's a scary beast. He never takes one day off. When we get into the studio it is very competitive, but in a good way. You can't just use a line you wrote Tuesday. Every line has to be thought out." (The Boom Box)

The new Young Money album debuted in the Top 10 last month.

Lil Wayne's Young Money compilation, We Are Young Money, debuted at No. 9 this week. The group's debut album has sold 143,000 copies to date. (Sales Wrap)

Rick Ross & DJ Khaled Talk Teflon Don, Reveal Movie Poster

Def Jam’s Rick Ross and DJ Khaled have spoken on the upcoming release of Ross’ fourth solo project, Teflon Don.

The rapper said he is also anticipating the release of a movie with Birdman to drop around the same time.

“What’s up, you live on the set, ‘Mafia Music 2′ off the new album, Teflon Don,” Ross said in a video. “Get ready for that, that’s gonna be this summer. Movie as well, we’re doing big things. This right here is a Maybach Films production — we actually out here just making a movie. It’s a real dope record…We finna change the game once again, stay tuned.”

Khaled added that Ross’ album will be worth the wait.

“Maybach Music, Def Jam, ‘Mafia Music 2′ video shoot, we at one of our mansions,” Khaled said. “[We're] just doing it real big. You know Ross got the album, Teflon Don, coming. It’s gonna be a problem, it’s gonna be crazy. The album is sounding magnificent. It’s some boss sh*t, it’s some Teflon Don sh*t. Make sure you check out Ross on my album, Victory, March 2nd. That’s real soon, it’s gonna be a problem, you feel me?”

Ross recently spoke with SOHH about predicting he would make the best records for 2010.

“Honestly, n*ggas can talk sh*t but it’s hard to really make predictions other than lord willing we’ll be still here, you know what I”m saying,” Ross told SOHH. “N*ggas here, free, alive, other than that, we just gonna make the best music we gonna make. And I feel it’s gonna compete with the best music that’s being made right now.”

Lil Wayne Unreleased Video Surfaces; Disses 50 Cent video

An apparent unreleased music video of rapper Lil Wayne who’s preparing to head off to be sentenced for prison come February 9, 2010 in New York, has surfaced on the internet.

Lil Wayne’s unreleased video, apparently from years ago, surfaced online over the weekend and is for the song “Money On My Mind” off Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter II album. The video, which is directed by Jordan Tower Films, shows Lil Wayne in one scene holding 50 Cent’s book — From Pieces to Weight: Once Upon a Time in Southside Queens — while laughing into the camera. Meant as a possible diss at that time? Or was he showing props to 50 Cent’s hustle as detailed in the book?

In related news, Lil Wayne just recently wrapped up the closing dates of his Farewell concert, as well as has completed twenty new songs for his much anticipated Carter IV (4) album release.

Meanwhile, Lil Wayne’s album “Rebirth,” is slated for release on February 2, 2010.
